2006, BMX pioneers did ride ROUTE 66

This August 2006 a year ago, three BMX pioneer/organizers celebrated the 25th anniversary of BMX and friendship among them, by taking a 16 days vacations to the USA riding the ROUTE 66.

Gerrit Does (brought BMX to Holland-Europe in 1974-76), Louis Vrijdag (was asked by GD to help getting BMX organized in Holland in 1979 and played a very important role later on in I.BMX.F. integrating into the UCI) and Jan van de Wiel , one of several members of the KNWU BMX committee from 1981 on) did organise their own trip to the USA and the ROUTE 66 journey through the USA. These three men were joined by Jan's son Jarno, an Old Skool BMX'er that loves motorcycles.

Ofcourse Harley Davidson's were hired and 3075 miles were covered during those 16 days with side trips to Las Vegas and ofcourse the Grand Canyon. We had a great time and all of that in fact because of BMX. Isn't that great!!
